Samuel Freeman House

Samuel Freeman HouseThis print is of the Samuel Freeman House, a lesser known hidden gem in LA designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Built in 1924, its an early example of Wrights textile block style, where patterned concrete blocks form both structure and decoration. I love how it blends seamlessly into the nature around it while still feeling strikingly modern for its time.

This was the second print I created in this long running series

I’m not sure if it’s just because I actually like the burgers or because it feels like a uniquely Californian experience that I can’t miss out on

nostalgia and anticipation all wrapped into one view

long before the golden arches became a global symbol

at least as far as donuts go

and it naturally evolved into this sequel print

then another car

and it’s the perfect way to get one last taste of LA before you leave

I actually had the honour of visiting the John Sowden House in person after being commissioned by the couple who live there

is definitely a dream of mine

El Coyote Cafe was a must-visit for me

but didn’t get the chance to draw it until a few years later
