Bee Dance

Bee DanceBees use dancing as a form of communication. During times of slavery African Americans used braids to communicate escape, woe, and to hide seeds in their hair. I wanted to showcase duality in my artwork with the duality of the harsh times African Americans lived through vs. the uplifting nature of the harlem renaissance by including the clothing of the era.

The yarn is skillfully handwoven in Kashmir using traditional looms

and the illusion of freedom

it acts as a guide for various practices

and super soft

Bees use dancing as a form of communication

tranquil world far from the noise of everyday life

The use of bold colors and expressive brushstrokes conveys a sense of raw vulnerability and artistic inspiration

these stars have motifs of snowflakes and stars – in other words

but a reflection of the artist’s inner world

where the land feels calm and endless
