Ponsot Clos de Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru 2012This is aromatically riper than the Chambertin though that is not especially surprising. There is fine layering to the spiced plum, cassis, warm earth and hint of exotic tea aromas. I very much like the sense of vitality and masculine punch of the lush, even opulent middle weight plus flavors that possess plenty of tannin buffering dry extract before concluding in a dusty and palate coating finish that delivers excellent persistence.

In the same vein as the nose the big-bodied flavors are denser and more powerful as the dry extract really imparts a textured palate impression on the sappy and velvety finale

with nuances of cigar box

Near black in color with saturated ruby and vermillion nuances

This is a legend in the making

but the last two times I have had it

has a dense black cherry and blackcurrant-scented nose with graphite and forest floor notes

what else can be said about something so perfect and thrilling

presented in a gift box

Gloriously fresh and completely alive

but loads of structure and minerality

seems to be the most gravelly (pardon the pun) and with loads of minerality it’s a more backward tannic style
