Constantine was born in Sheffield, the son of a saw maker, he studied at The Sheffield School of Art, assisting Sir William Rothenstein. Later training in painting restoration at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, before returning to Sheffield where he became Director of the Graves Art Gallery
