Mendelssohn - Symphony No. 4 / Ansermet - Super Hot Stamper (Quiet Vinyl)This record has the same kind of amazing sound as the Chabrier disc on London from the same year, but its much more rare, perhaps because the cover does not help to sell the album. (The Chabrier cover is not much either, but in both cases the music and sound are sublime.) I dont think Ive ever heard a better Mendelssohn 4th. We admit we foolishly did not expect much from a mid 60s London with a cover this plain. Its hard to get excited about an album

perhaps with that little dip in the upper midrange that so many moving coils have these days

most of their titles are hard to come by

This vintage RCA pressing has the kind of Tubey Magical Midrange that modern records can barely BEGIN to reproduce

It's no exaggeration to say that this record should put to shame 99% of all the rock records you have ever heard
