d'Arenberg Ironstone Pressings Vintage 1996The name derives from granite known as Ironstone which litters many vineyards in the McLaren Vale. Much was removed in the late 1880's and used for some of the d'Arenberg buildings. Typical blend, Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre. 75cl bottle. Abv 15% Bottle conditions, cap good, label good, wine level in neck.

A very good vintage for the region

It does show the strong ties between Bordeaux and British merchants

and it has taken longer to evolve than many of its peers

of which Montrose was one

This is a fabulous selection of one bottle of each vintage from 1995 to 2000

2023 - This wine pours medium to light ruby in the glass

This wine was the first semi sweet wine to be produced in Rioja

Known in the past for producing muscular wines

1987 was not one of the great vintages

Seemingly still young with still some separation in the primary elements of the taste
