Ridge Monte Bello Vintage 1977The first Monte Bello was made by Ridge Vineyards in 1962, followed by a Zinfandell two years later. Monte Bello remains the flagship wine, with a worldwide reputation. The 1977 vintage was the second in a row with drought, but the growers were better equipped to deal with it compared to the previous vintage. Typical blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot. 75cl bottle. Abv 13% Bottle condition, capsule good, label good, wine level top shoulder.

Slightly liquorice edge to firm cherry fruit pastille on the nose

including Edouard Lawton (the wolf of his family crest adorns the Léoville Poyferré labels to this day)

A bottle opened recently was magnificent and lived up to the reputation of this great vintage

This estate has always been a firm favourite of The Wine Cru and thus we have had the pleasure of drinking many vintages

The acids are somewhat pronounced

With only 12 acres under vine this is a limited production wine situated on Pritchard hill overlooking Oakville

The estate changed the name to Chateau La Mission Haut Brion Blanc in 2008

Francois Borie took over the smaller of the estates and named it Haut Batailley
