Pounamu Roimata 1Approx 6 x 1. 5cm Raukaraka Pounamu(sourced from the West Coast of New Zealand). Black plaited cord Raukaraka stone variety is a rare form of kawakawa pounamu. It is named after the leaf of the karaka tree because of the orange colour that the thick oxidized crust takes on from the earths minerals. The flesh of this pounamu is usually olive to light green in colour. The early lapidarist would cut the thick crust off and only use the heart to fashion

Koukourarata takes its name from the original kāinga located at the head of the bay

Unknown what type of stone this is but it had some beautiful colours that peaked my interest and I couldn’t help but to carve a toki from it
