The dial is inspired by a painting by William Adolphe Bouguereau, titled "Dante et Virgile en Enfer" (Dante and Virgil in Hell) and originally made in 1850. But that's not Dante, nor Virgil, nor Capocchio, nor Gianni Schicchi, which are the main people depicted in the painting. It is the demon in the background, flying and looking at Capocchio and Schicchi
